At the University of Memphis, I was taught to Dream. Think. Do. That simple phrase has stuck with me ever since, guiding how I live, work, and connect with others. As an American living and teaching in Japan, I’ve come to see those three words not just as a motto, but as a mindset. It’s something I try to bring into the classroom every day here at Nihon Gakuen.

For me, teaching goes far beyond grammar points and textbooks. It’s about building trust. It’s about helping students express who they really are. And it’s about creating real connections between students, teachers, and cultures. I believe that strong human relationships are the foundation of true education, and that’s what I want to focus on while I’m here.

Nihon Gakuen is entering a new chapter as it prepares to become Meiji Setagaya in 2026, strengthening its relationship with Meiji University. I think that’s exciting. My dream is to support students who want to continue their journey at Meiji University after graduation. Whether it’s through English communication, mentoring, or just being someone they can talk to, I want to help students take that next step with confidence.

In the end, I’m here to grow too. I want to grow side by side with the people around me. I believe that when we dream boldly, think deeply, and take action together, great things happen. That’s the kind of energy I hope to bring to our school community every single day.

私の母校であるメンフィス大学には「Dream. Think. Do.（夢を持ち、考え、行動する）」というシンプルなモットーがあります。この言葉は、私の生き方や働き方、そして人との関わり方に今でも強く影響を与えています。アメリカ出身の私が日本で教員として働く中で、この考え方はただのスローガンではなく、生き方そのものになりました。そして今、ここ日本学園でも、その精神を日々の授業に活かしています。

私にとって教育とは、単に英語の文法や教科書の内容を教えることではありません。大切なのは、生徒との信頼関係を築き、生徒一人ひとりが「自分らしさ」を言葉で表現できるようサポートすることです。先生方や生徒たちと心のつながりを深めながら、文化や価値観を越えた本当の意味での「人と人とのつながり」をつくっていくことこそが、私の目指す教育です。

現在、日本学園は明治大学との連携を深め、2026年には「明治世田谷」として新たなスタートを切ろうとしています。この大きな変化の中で、私は、明治大学への進学を夢見る生徒たちを全力でサポートしたいと思っています。英語指導を通じて、あるいは日々のコミュニケーションを通じて、生徒たちが自信を持って次の一歩を踏み出せるような存在でありたいです。

そして、私自身もまた、ここで成長していきたいと願っています。生徒と、先生と、共に歩みながら、互いに学び合い、支え合っていけたらと思っています。「夢を持ち、深く考え、行動に移す」――そんなエネルギーを、これからもこの学校に届けていけるよう努めていきます。
